The purpose of this site is to inform future clients of the wealth of experience the Director of The Ideas Factory, Michael Chubb, has in event development, press, PR and Marketing, but also to help those who believe events help deliver sustainable outcomes to public/ private and community sectors.

Who is The Ideas Factory?

The Director of the Ideas Factory is Michael Chubb; an expert in events, marketing, promotions and sponsorship of 23 years standing. The Ideas Factory started trading in August 2002 and is accredited by the Wales Quality Centre as an approved consultant for The Welsh Development Agency. Michael was head of events for Cardiff and Birmingham Councils, Director of Cardiff Marketing and since 2002 freelance delivering bespoke events, marketing press and pr strategies to a wide range of public,private sector and voluntary/charity groups

As the freelance director of The Ideas Factory, his past experience in public, private and community sectors enables him to work seamlessly across governmental, public and private sectors engendering trust and support allowing for broad subscription for the many diverse responsibilities and initiatives that are required.

  • Funderworld, the UK’s only mobile theme park where I was responsible for delivering a 5 year UK wide comprehensive marketing and promotional strategy including brand creation utilizing all creative outlets - web based, regional radio/television, press/pr to all printed material including 48 sheeters, bus backs and t/sides.


  • The Royal British Legion - Responsible for their National Veterans days


  • Theatr na n’Og - Responsible for press/pr/marketing

Cardiff Marketing (September 1998 - August 2002)


As The Director of Creative Development for the promotion of Cardiff, Michael's role (with his team and agency staff) and reportage to board was to deliver press/pr and marketing campaigns nationally and internationally. All sectors from education to development, arts, sports and tourism came within his brief.


This included overall responsibility for the delivery of:


  • Creation and management of the Cardiff Brand, including all marketing and production of promotional materials, publications, web based initiatives, marketing and advertising campaigns, press and familiarization visits.


  • Management and implementation of Cardiff Marketing communications department including crisis management and the delivery of public/private sector buy in to the company’s communication strategy.

  • The 1999 Rugby World Cup marketing campaign


  • Management of marketing safety planning for FA Cup, playoff finals in the Millennium stadium as part of the Stadium’s advisory committee


  • Delivering a corporate Cardiff strategy for the development sector at Mipim Cannes

  • Stakeholder development

  • Creation of new national/international events


Head of Entertainments and Special Events   


Birmingham City Council (January 1994 - August 1998)


As Head of Birmingham City Council’s Entertainment and Special Events Department Michael was responsible for a team of 30 personnel, delivering over 400 events a year. Ranging in Scale and diversity these events ranged from hall mark events e.g. New Years Eve (audience 100,000) Fireworks Fantasia (audience 60,000) G8 Summit, World Disability Games, Euro ’96, to large scale community events e.g. Vaisakhi, Eid, Diwali, and Gay Pride.Michael also supported many small community festivals and events in the delivery of their aspirations.



Head of Arts Development and Events   


Cardiff City Council (August 1982 - January 1994)


During Michael's 12 years tenure at Cardiff City Council he progressed from Running the city’s play service ( of some 60 personnel) to the whole community Service to setting up a new department overseeing the creation, delivery and marketing of all the city’s special events. These events ranged from New Years Eve and Europe Festival to The Cardiff Festival (including Children’s Festival, Visual Arts Festival, International Festival of Street Entertainment and The Big Weekend).
